Book Cover

Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostevesky is one of the first books that
introduced me to my love of philosophy and psychology. Fyodor writes in a very simple,
straightforward style and since this is considered a classic novel, I chose to represent this by using a very simple and classic design aesthetic.

To catch attention, the main image takes up a large portion of the front cover. The main image is a silhouette of a man with a tunnel going through his head which is symbolic of the overall existential theme of the book and the duality between a man and his endless thoughts. As Dostevesky inspired many psychologists, philosophers and writers through the years, I decided to have the testimonials take up the space in the back cover, as I often purchase books that have strong testimonials.

The overall mood of the book is quite gloomy, so I incorporated a plain colour palette of neutrals throughout the design to match the emotion of the book without being too distasteful and used minimal colours to have the front cover image pop.
